Tiny Tinkers, featured on our Watoto World of Wonder mini-campus, is one of our wildly anticipated interactive science classes specifically designed for early learners ages 3-6. Watoto (children) will be highly engaged in intriguing experiments that will captivate their attention and spark the genius that resides within. Parents will need to assist. Simple and inexpensive supply list must be purchased by parents in advance.

Ronnie Thomas applies his 20 years of STEM teaching experience to ensure that all learners are challenged. A two-time teacher of the year recipient, Ronnie has conducted research with NASA Reduced Gravity Education Flight Program. He is an enthusiastic and passionate technology-driven educator with a solid commitment to the social, academic and developmental growth of every student. Known for his engaging and versatile teaching methods, Thomas has the ability to inspire hands-on learning experiences that capture a student’s imagination. A native of Birmingham, Ronnie graduated from Alabama State University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (Beta Zeta). Week 1 Ping Pong Play:

Ping Pong Balls

Straws

2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups lukewarm water
2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
Food coloring, optional

Quart sized bags

Week 2: Magnetic Math

Jumbo craft sticks (popsicle sticks, the big ones)

Magnetic strips with adhesive backing

Jumbo paper clips

Black permanent marker

Week 3: Slime and Entrepreneurship

I cup of white glue

1/2 cup of water

4 cups of shaving cream

Food coloring and glitter (optional)

3 Tablespoons of Borax Solution (mix 1 Tablespoon of borax powder in 1 cup of hot water, stir until dissolved and let cool) Make this at the beginning of the experiment.

3 Tablespoons of contact solution

Mixing bowl

Spatula

Plastic bag for finished product storage

Week 4: Lava Lamps
 

Empty plastic water bottle with top (16-20 oz or larger)

Vegetable oil

Food coloring

Water
Alka seltzer tablets (the more the better)
